Ever-higher fuel costs have meant that many operators have opted for the lowest grade fuel oils available, presumably after considering the potential adverse effects this can have on the machinery against the cost savings. The results in terms of emissions from the ships themselves are quite spectacular \u2013 though hardly environmentally friendly. Here are a few images from the past year or so of Southern Europe\u2019s ferries, and the results of what their owners have been feeding them. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2623\"
